Arc8sound is a musical instrument with a retro design inspired by arcade game machines and old synthesizers. The buttons are used to trigger twelve-tone notes and change octaves, while the 4x4 LED monitor visualizes the frequencies.

How does it work?

At the heart of our instrument is the Daisy Seed Microcontroller, which has as inputs the buttons of the capacitive touchpad and the green-led pushbuttons. These inputs are processed by the microcontroller to obtain the frequency of the output tone. This tone is not purely sinusoidal, we have tweaked the sound so that it resembles an 8-bit arcade game. The frequency of each note is then mapped to a range representing a bold vivid RGB color, which is visualized on the LED monitor, whenever a touchpad key is pressed.
