Licht Geluid is an installation with two rotating discs that through rotating them changes the sound and patterns you see and hear. The UV-printed patterns on the discs as well as the laser light ('licht') installation are meant to create a direct link to the sound ('geluid') you hear, hence the name. The printed patterns to see slight variations in rotations and the laser to create a more full character from the sound.

the tech

How does it work?

The disc installation basically works as large knobs. I did this with the use of magnets and hall sensors (magnet sensors). Each disc has two sensors that are in an 90 degree angle from the center of the disc. Then with the placement of magnets the sensors (with the code) can read which direction the disc is rotating which is linked to a change of sound. The laser installation works with the placement of a mirror piece in the middle of a membrane. This membrane sits in front of a speaker that makes the membrane move in three dimensions. The laser points at the mirror and captures the movement.
