In the Symphony of Sensations we delve into the depths of human experience, exploring how our senses shape our reality and bind us to the world. Amidst solitude, our protagonist embarks on a journey where the act of dining becomes a symphony of sensations. Absent are the chatter of companions; instead, a solitary figure sits in quiet communion with their meal. A plate of pasta transcends its culinary essence, morphing into a conduit of sound, where each bite, each movement, orchestrates a narrative. It is a testament to the profound connection between perception and creation.

the tech

How does it work?

The technical implementation of Symphony of Sensations integrates sensory inputs into a cohesive sonic landscape. The sound of eating is amplified as a contact microphone picks up the clanging of utensils on the plate and the contrasting textures of wet food and ceramic. Heartbeat sensors attached to the performer are synthesized into a melodic, high pitch accompaniment while simulatenously measuring the reactions of the performer's own body to modulate the intensity of audio. Meanwhile, a flex sensor attached to the arm bends the audio's granularity. Althogether, these data streams are channelled into and integrated within a Max MSP using a combination of OSC and custom-built sensing devices.
