Our project set out to create an immersive musical experience in which musical function is contingent on human participation. The various pads only work when one hand is grounded to the copper foil, making the player a part of the circuit. Once grounded, the other pads can be touched/played in any possibility of combination to create unique and abrasive soundscapes. The pads are highly sensitive to touch and offer freedom to the player, who can make sounds as caustic or coherent as desired.

How does it work?

Our project relies on a voltage divider which is grounded by human touch. Once grounded, the player becomes a pathway for the voltage to drop. The Arduino controller detects these drops and then sends a signal to the speaker based on whichever port is connected to the pad.
